Demon Hunter is Suing Netflix Over “Kpop Demon Hunters”

Demon Hunter, a Christian metal band, has filed a lawsuit in federal court in California against Netflix (NFLX.O), a new company, and concert organizer AEG Presents, claiming that an impending concert tour based on the streaming platform’s “KPop Demon Hunters” violates its trademarks.

The band claimed in the lawsuit, which was filed on Tuesday, that the recent announcement of a tour based on the popular Netflix film has confused customers and could “eclipse” their brand.

The lawsuit stated, “Netflix is not entitled to use the mark KPOP DEMON HUNTERS any more than it would be to launch a recording artist, live touring show, and merchandise under the marks KPOP METALLICA, KPOP U2, or KPOP BLACK SABBATH.”

In response, Netflix said in a statement on Wednesday that the accusations were “without merit.”Netflix stated, “We look forward to vigorously defending this matter.”

John Tehranian of One LLP, Demon Hunter’s lawyer, declined to comment.

In 2000, Demon Hunter was founded in Seattle. The band will start a U.S. tour in October after releasing their most recent record last year.

In June 2025, Netflix aired “KPop Demon Hunters,” an animated film about a Korean K-Pop group that hunts demons in secret. It won the Academy Awards for best animated feature and best song, and according to Netflix, it became the most watched movie on the streaming service ever.

In May, Netflix and AEG announced a tour based on the film.

According to Demon Hunter’s lawsuit, Netflix’s endeavors will probably confuse consumers and drive them out of the market. The band claimed to have already received an email from an Inside Edition producer requesting an interview with one of the songwriters for the film, as well as a refund request from a parent who unintentionally purchased tickets to one of its shows rather than the “KPop Demon Hunters” tour.

The band stated in the lawsuit that it “now faces an existential crisis, thereby necessitating the filing of this ⁠action” due to the deliberate misconduct of the defendants.
