Saudi Arabia Empowers Women at Global Industry Summit to Drive Industrial Change

An emphasis on women’s empowerment in the industrial sector was the main theme at the Global Industry Summit 2025 (a part of the 21st session of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization). The event focused on women and their contributions to industrial transformation. It facilitated the interaction of global and regional leaders with this theme.
During the summit, one of the major events was the “Women’s Empowerment Day” which demonstrated the extent to which Saudi Arabia is innovative in the use of female integration as one of the key moves of its extensive economic plan. The kingdom sees women not only as the end-users of technology and the products of the industry but also as the professionals who are deeply involved in these fields and who take up technical, leadership, and decision-making roles. The Assistant Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Planning and Development, Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Alahmari, highlighted the Kingdom’s energy and eagerness for more female participation in the industrial fields.
It is quite a substantial point that the conversation has changed from merely including women to actually positioning them at different stages of the industrial value chain. The initiative does not only focus on the number of women but rather it restructures reforms to have women at the center of innovation, industrial procedures, and strategic decision-making. The summit had sessions focused on this very topic and discussed aspects such as policy, skills, partnerships, and successful initiatives.
The Saudi Arabian economic transformation under the Vision 2030 plan is all about the use of talents from both genders, this is the bigger picture. One of the major factors that trigger economic growth is the employment of women’s potential in areas that have been traditionally male-dominated. Several studies are in line with the idea of women empowerment as a major contributor to economic growth in Saudi Arabia over time.
Key points from the summit:
- Raising the industry-specific issues that prevent women from progressing in the fields of skills mismatch, leadership gaps, cultural norms, has resulted in the development of targeted interventions to address them.
- The involvement of different stakeholders (government, industry, academia, global agencies) is very important to bring about a structural change.
- At the same time, celebrations of and scaling up of women-led projects take place not merely talking about them.
Concluding thoughts: This event goes beyond a mere conference. It serves as a very clear indication of Saudi Arabia’s firm move towards a change in gender and industrial development issues. For women in the Kingdom, it paves the way for new industry careers. For industry, it broadens the talent pool and positions Saudi Arabia as a regional tech and manufacturing hub that nurtures female leadership. As the summit officially concludes and several projects are set to be launched, there will be a need to follow up on the tangible results of the real world: the number of women in leadership, which industrial roles become available, and how this affects economic performance.
